The new Overwatch hero Doomfist is here! Blizzard talks about his abilities and shows screenshots of the melee fighter.
Fans have waited a long time, but now it’s finally here. The latest hero Doomfist for Overwatch has been officially introduced by Blizzard. In a Developer Update, Jeff Kaplan talked in detail about the new hero and explained his abilities.
Doomfist has a lot up his sleeve
Doomfist will be an offensive melee hero. At range, he is almost useless, but in close combat, he poses a real threat to multiple enemies. Let’s take a look at his abilities:
- The Hand Cannon is a type of shotgun and his only means of dealing damage at range.
- The Rocket Punch is a charged attack. The longer you charge it, the further Doomfist charges forward and damages hit enemies. It penetrates barriers (such as from Reinhardt or Orisa) and knocks back enemy heroes. If the hit hero lands against a wall, they take increased damage.
- With Uppercut, Doomfist punches upwards and takes hit opponents with him, who stumble helplessly in the air for a moment.
- Whenever Doomfist is in the air, he has a targeting cone for the ground. When he lands, he can use Seismic Slam to pull all hit enemies closer to him. This can be perfectly combined with Uppercut and also the Rocket Punch.
- His Ultimate is Meteor Strike. Doomfist jumps into the air and can land in a target area. He deals high damage upon landing and stuns all hit targets, providing further combo opportunities.
- His passive ability is The Best Defense. Whenever Doomfist deals damage with his punches, he receives a temporary shield that absorbs damage. The shield fades after a few moments.
No release date for Doomfist has been announced yet. However, he should be playable on the PTR soon. The PTR of Overwatch is currently only available to PC players. Players on PS4 and Xbox One will have to wait until the release of Doomfist to try him out.
