The fan project Loverwatch is a dating sim based on Overwatch. But how safe is one from Blizzard?
The US site Kotaku has featured “Loverwatch” in a longer interview and introduced the minds behind it. Loverwatch is a dating sim with Overwatch characters. Although the project is still in development, the interest in Loverwatch is surprisingly high on Tumblr. Many newcomers to the project think that all heroes are available – but only three are, namely Genji, Mei, and Bastion. The whole thing has to stay within the “fan framework”; otherwise, the dialogue explodes, requiring an insane number of dialogue lines that couldn’t be managed.
It is said that Bastion’s data consists 100% of beeps and boops. You also interact with the bird, and body language is extremely important here.
The game works like an RPG; you play a character in the world of Overwatch, start at the base, choose a profession, and then the journey begins.
As natural experts on such matters, the developers of Loverwatch were also asked which “pairing” they prefer in Overwatch. A favorite here is probably Mercy and Pharah (“Pharmercy”) – they are definitely more than just friends. This whole situation is particularly appealing because there is also a “super mom” in the game with Ana.
The legal situation of Loverwatch is unclear – one hopes for Blizzard’s grace
As nice as the project sounds, one lives in constant fear that Blizzard will pull the plug with a copyright lawsuit. Although the developers of Loverwatch have sought contact with Blizzard several times to get an “okay,” Blizzard has never replied. Recently, several fan projects have been abruptly terminated, especially by companies like Nintendo. One hopes that Blizzard will react “atypically”.
