Losing in Overwatch is not fun. Unless you suddenly get a skill rating of 500.
The last will be the first
Ah, the world of bugs and glitches is always amusing. With the start of the second Overwatch season, the game is still not completely free of errors, although this only surfaced a few weeks later. Since the last update, there is a new ranking system that ranges from 0 to 5000 instead of 1 to 100, to give players a better impression of how well they are performing. Already in the last season, some very persistent fans tried to achieve the lowest rank in the game – simply because they can.
The same thing happened in Season 2, but there is an amusing glitch. The Korean player IzA has intentionally dropped to rank 0 – but obviously, Overwatch cannot handle that. The consequence: his rank was set to 5000! Since then, IzA is still playing and falling again in the ranks – in this screenshot here, he is seen with a rating of 4710.
Kotaku interviewed the player Brown, who has been pursuing the same goal for a while. He commented on IzA’s performance:
“That is quite an achievement to pull off. Because once you are at the bottom of the table – around rank 800 – you only lose 1-4 ranks per round. Plus, you have to invest a lot of time into it. I have lost 83 matches so far and I am already feeling a bit worn out. This guy must have lost 230 or more games.”
Mein-MMO says: A strange bug, which is becoming a bit embarrassing for Blizzard. After all, there were players in the first season with strange display errors who aimed for the “lowest rank”. Hopefully, Blizzard will quickly issue a hotfix here, because as it stands, the easiest way to rank 5000 is probably just to consistently lose – although that requires its own form of endurance and resilience.
