With the “Overwatch Contenders” event, all players have a chance to secure a spot in the league of Overwatch – offering plenty of fame (and a lot of money).
Blizzard still aims to make the Overwatch League a major player in the eSports scene and also spark the interest of non-gamers in this type of sport. And it’s slowly entering the “hot phase”, as the first “Overwatch Contenders” event has now been announced. In the “Season Zero” of this league, there is an open registration for all players and teams interested.
Overwatch Contenders: Entry for Undiscovered Talents
The Contenders tournament takes place in both America and Europe, each in their own rounds. In both cases, there is a prize pool of $50,000! All players can register for the open qualification tournament. The top 16 teams from each region will then participate in the group stage, with the remaining 8 best teams advancing to the playoffs. There, it will be decided who takes home the lion’s share of the prize money.
Pro teams will likely keep an eye on this tournament and look for new players to recruit.
