Blizzard would like to see its Overwatch characters in Smash Bros. Will we soon play Genji and Tracer in Nintendo’s fighting game?
When it comes to fighting games on Nintendo’s Switch, there is hardly a way around Super Smash Bros. The colorful fighting game series has been combining characters from various franchises for over two decades and lets them battle against each other. Link from Zelda might punch a Pokémon Trainer or Samus Aran from Metroid might blast Princess Peach out of her castle.
However, characters from a completely different universe might also be introduced in Smash Bros. – the heroes from Overwatch.
What was said? In an interview with IGN, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan spoke about the possibility of bringing Overwatch characters to Smash Bros. Apparently, Kaplan himself is a fan of Smash Bros., as he says:
To the “Smash Bros.” team, no matter which character you want, we love them all. They are our babies and you can have every single one of them. We have 31 to choose from.
This character Kaplan wants in the game: However, Kaplan has a clear favorite for which character he would like to see there:
Tracer is our girl, Tracer is our mascot. She would be my first choice.
However, Kaplan could also imagine that Doomfist would fit particularly well in the fighting game. After all, his play style in Overwatch already resembles a fighting game with combos.
Wes Yanagi, the Principal Game Designer for the Switch version of Overwatch, has his own wishes, though. He would like to see Winston in Smash Bros. Would that make for a funny combination with Donkey Kong?
Overwatch soon on the Switch: The topic came up because Overwatch will be released on the Switch in less than 2 weeks. From October 15, you can also play Blizzard’s shooter on the Nintendo console.
