The players of Overwatch wish for more variety in the selected voicelines – and Blizzard responds to these wishes.
Assigning individual voicelines to hotkeys – a reality soon?
Customizing one’s hero in Overwatch is one of the most important side features for many players of the hero shooter. However, the current system only allows players to equip a single voiceline or a single spray logo at a time. User FrostyVampir first proposed a new system on Reddit and then in the official forum that would give players more freedom.
He suggests that instead of equipping individual voicelines in the hero gallery, players can activate and deactivate each voiceline individually. When executing the command for “voiceline” in the chat wheel, one of the selected phrases will be played randomly. Alternatively, or additionally, he proposes that individual voicelines could be assigned to specific keys, such as the numbers on the numpad.
A similar system would also work for spray logos, allowing players to show off a bit more of what they’ve unlocked than just a single logo.
Finally, FrostyVampir wishes for a “random” button for skins, similar to what is available for victory poses.
To the surprise of most forum users, a response came promptly from Jeff Kaplan, the Game Director:
“We love this idea.”
This certainly does not mean that this feature will be implemented in the game in the foreseeable future, but at least the first foundation has been laid. Since Blizzard has been very responsive to fan wishes, this feature – at least in a similar form – can probably be expected in two or three patches.
