Anyone interested can pre-order Overwatch – for the consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it’s not going to be cheap.
Heroes on the Gamepad
It can be surprising how quickly things can be revealed: As of today, you can pre-order the shooter at GameStop, specifically for the consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Although this is not yet listed on the shop’s website, those venturing out into the real world can visit a trusted GameStop store and pay for their pre-order of the game, as reported by the US site Kotaku. It seems that GameStop has preempted a significant announcement planned for BlizzCon.
At least in America, the game is being offered for $60, which suggests that it will not be a free-to-play title, but a full-price game. The free-to-play model was already doubted by developers beforehand, as the continual switching of heroes is a core component of the game and would pose a challenge to a free-to-play model.
Similar titles to Overwatch include Evolve and Battleborn. Evolve has also been released for consoles and follows a classic buy-to-play payment model with additional microtransactions, and Battleborn’s plans look very similar.
This likely means that a significant announcement for the upcoming BlizzCon has already been revealed ahead of time – somewhere at Blizzard, some phone lines are probably getting quite a workout…
