The new Busan map is playable on the Overwatch PTR! Check out the trailer here

Blizzard unveiled a new control point map for Overwatch: Busan in a short video at Gamescom. Check out what the new map has to offer here.

Busan is located in South Korea, the homeland of the gamer D.Va, making it fitting to the newly released cinematic “Shooting Star.” D.Va is stationed in Busan and defends the city against an omnic attack during which she gets injured and uses the self-destruct of her MEKA for the first time.

Busan is now playable on the Overwatch PTR. There is even a Busan mode in Arcade where only the new map is played.

How is Busan structured?

Busan will have three sections with a control point like every control point map: Sanctuary, Downtown, and MEKA Base.

Sanctuary, the sanctuary or shrine, is surrounded by a temple, gardens, and historical architecture. In Downtown, you’ll fight amidst “Korean LAN parties,” the “PC Bangs,” karaoke bars, and the train station. The train even seems to be a gameplay element. In the MEKA Base, you can see how D.Va and her colleagues live and work.

How does Busan work?

In control point maps, teams start at the same time from opposite points on the map. The control point is located in the middle of the two spawn points and is equidistant from both. The teams fight to take control and hold it until the counter reaches 100%.

If no allied player is on the control point and an opponent enters it, they will slowly capture the point. If 99% is reached and there are still opponents on the point, it is considered “contested” and overtime begins until the attackers capture the point or the defenders manage to drive them off.

Is there more to come? It is quite possible that a deeper backstory about D.Va will be released in the future. While Busan and “Shooting Star” already reveal some aspects of her story, there is still not as much as the background video “Winter Awakening” of Mei from Gamescom 2017.

The community is already excited about the new content; comments on YouTube and in the official forums are overwhelmingly positive. Busan and a D.Va cinematic were also the hopes of some of you on our Overwatch Facebook page.
