A player of the online shooter Overwatch was banned for allegedly using cheat software. When he complained about it, boss Jeff Kaplan personally intervened.
Why was the player banned? The Overwatch player CulonaVirus posted in the official Overwatch forum that he was banned. Allegedly, he had used cheat software.
However, he stated that this was not the case. It must be a mistake.

How did the players react? Team members reacted to CulonaVirus’ post, initially believing him and supporting him. There was speculation that perhaps harmless programs had been recognized as cheat software.
What did Blizzard say about it? Suddenly, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan personally got involved. The Overwatch boss kept it rather short and posted in the thread:
We have discovered several cheats on this account and have verified this. Goodbye.

How did the mood change afterwards? Most later sided with Blizzard. After all, Jeff Kaplan spoke up personally. His word carries weight in the community, and when the boss says something like that, it must be true.
However, Kaplan did not explain which programs were involved, leaving a small remainder of doubt. There was also suspicion that CulonaVirus might have been banned not for cheats, but because of his somewhat distasteful player name, which is a reference to the coronavirus.
How did the player respond? After Jeff Kaplan spoke up, CulonaVirus went silent. He has not spoken up since. This leads to suspicion that he felt caught. After all, he had the honor of being reprimanded by the Overwatch boss himself.
