On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, there is a big problem in Overwatch – a lot of afk players roaming around in Lúcioball.
Currently, the Summer Games 2017 are taking place in Overwatch. They entice with a lot of cool rewards and the game mode Lúcioball, which for the first time also features a ranked mode.
But players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not really having fun in the “regular” Lúcioball – many players here are not participating in the match.
This leads to quite absurd encounters, like this one. The player Thebozofbilly joins a match with 5 other players – all of whom are afk. You can see what it looks like here.
It almost has something eerie to watch the other five just run in circles or slide across the map in strange paths.
Normally, in Overwatch, you get kicked if you do not participate in any combat action for more than a minute. But that is precisely the problem in Lúcioball. Strictly speaking, there are no combat actions here, since the two teams cannot harm each other, but can only nudge and hit the ball.
For this reason, you are not kicked from a match for inactivity. And due to the automatic matchmaking, matches follow one after the other. The respective players are not even at the console, but are probably sleeping or working – while the XP is merrily flowing into their accounts. This ultimately results in many loot boxes with the rewards of the Summer Games.
This whole situation is certainly not desired. It is quite possible that there will be account penalties afterward. So we strongly advise against exploiting this bug.
At least on Reddit, this topic has gained significant attention. So it can be assumed that Blizzard is also aware of the problem.
Have you also experienced such matches? Or do you exploit this error yourself to grab loot boxes?
