If you want to be precise with Ashe in Overwatch, you have a problem. Aiming isn’t that easy, and a bug is to blame.
The latest hero Ashe is very popular in Overwatch, after all, she and her colleague B.O.B. clear opponents off the battlefield. However, the gaming experience is slightly marred, at least in the PC version of Overwatch. Players complain that aiming while zooming in feels weird. This has now been confirmed by Game Director Jeff Kaplan.
What is the bug? The animation with which Ashe transitions into her “zoom mode” (Aim Down Sight = ADS) is choppy and appears jittery when displayed on PCs with more than 60 frames per second. The actual aiming of the character does not change, but the jittery animation makes it seem like you are aiming imprecisely. This confuses many players and leads to situations where you are sure of a hit yet still miss.
When will the fix come? Jeff Kaplan has not yet provided a specific date for the fix. Although they are working to implement the change as soon as possible, it is unlikely to be ready within the current PTR cycle (1.31), but probably with Patch 1.32 instead. This may take a few more weeks. The reason is that the fix requires “a lot of lines of code” and needs extensive testing.
A workaround can help: If you want to disable the bug in the meantime, you should cap your frame rate in Overwatch to 60. Then the display error does not occur, and the animation appears smooth. If you’re not playing Ashe, you can, of course, continue playing with the full frame rate your PC can handle.
