Overwatch is playable on a total of three platforms: PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Since controlling with a gamepad proves to be more cumbersome than with keyboard and mouse, the game is balanced differently for PC and consoles. This results in some characters being stronger on consoles, while other heroes are among the best on PC.
Since her release, the hero Ana has been particularly struggling on PS4 and Xbox One.
The problem is Ana’s Aim Assist – the automatic target assist available in the console version. Almost all “hitscan” characters can enable aim assist on PS4 and Xbox One, as is common in console shooters.
Ana’s Auto-Aim does not target allies
The catch is: The aim assist causes Ana to always tend to aim at enemies. Therefore, those who want to heal allies have to constantly work against the aim assist and steer against it or turn it off completely.
This results in Ana players on PS4 and Xbox One having an average hit rate reduced by 7% compared to PC players. For other heroes, this rate only differs by 2-3%.
In the meantime, Blizzard has responded to the long complaints of the community and promised that they will address this issue.
The solution will be a new slider that regulates the “Friendly Aim Assist Strength” for Ana. So an “Aim Assist”, but only related to allies. This should make it much easier for Ana to bring friends into her crosshairs to heal them with targeted shots in the back.
When exactly this change will appear on PS4 and Xbox One is still unclear. However, the feature is “planned for one of the upcoming patches.”
