Actually, only a new map should have been introduced on the PTR of Overwatch along with some balance changes: Rialto. However, the team made a mistake, leading to more changes than planned: The Moon Colony Horizon is apparently getting a rework.
When the developers of Overwatch make mistakes, they often lead to unexpected innovations for players. This often results in interesting, new opportunities, such as being able to play Talon heroes in ranked.
The latest patch for the PTR of Overwatch was supposed to test only balance changes for Hanzo and other heroes and a new payload map. However, an error here led to you being able to test something that wasn’t even planned.
Moon Colony Horizon is being changed
The map “Moon Colony Horizon” is one of the least popular in the game. Even in its already hated context of attack maps, it is particularly loathed. Among all maps, it is the one that favors attackers the most. No question: Moon Colony Horizon has the worst balance.
The map was therefore supposed to be revised – just not right now. Due to an error when deploying the new patch on the PTR, changes to Horizon were inadvertently made available to players.
A quick tour of the map shows you its new appearance. Not much has changed, but it is often the small details that bring the advantage.
“This shouldn’t happen – but here, please.”
In response to the error, Principal Level Designer of Overwatch David Adams commented in the forums. He casually remarked on the mishap with the words: “This shouldn’t happen – but oh well, here you go.”
The changes to the Moon Colony Horizon are still in progress, and testing is being conducted. The current status on the PTR may therefore not be the final version.
Furthermore, the changes will not be active with the next patch, and there is still no release date. For custom games on the PTR, Horizon is currently still locked, meaning it cannot be specifically played.
