In 2018, new heroes are expected for Overwatch and an expansion of the Overwatch League is anticipated. According to Blizzard, new teams are expected to join the event for the second season of the Overwatch League!
The quarterly figures for the last quarter of 2017 have been released by Activision Blizzard. They look good, as the company can report nearly half a billion dollars more in net revenue than the previous year. With increased revenue, Activision Blizzard aims to enhance the quality of its games – and thus the experience for players.
For Overwatch, this means: more content for the game and support for esports. According to Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, additional events and heroes for the shooter, as well as increased engagement for the Overwatch League, are planned.

Good numbers mean new heroes and events!
In 2017, Blizzard recorded over 40 million active monthly users – and that for all four quarters. The last quarter of 2017 is thus the sixth in a row, with most of the users coming from Overwatch and Hearthstone.
The success of the game goes directly back to the players – according to Blizzard’s policy. A portion of the revenue will be invested in the development of new heroes and events. Which ones will be developed is still uncertain. Morhaime only confirmed that Blizzard is currently working on development.
Overwatch League successful – Esports is being promoted!
The second important news regarding Overwatch is the strengthening of the Overwatch League. According to Blizzard, it has been very successful. In the first week alone, the streams reached 10 million users, with an average of 280,000 viewers per minute.
Blizzard aims to build on this success in 2018. Especially for the second season later in the year, the company already has plans. The representatives of the Overwatch League expect new teams to join for the second season.
At the same time, Blizzard expects an increase in the purchase price. This has so far been reported by many sources as unconfirmed by Blizzard at 20 million dollars per team. For the second season, it should be even more – but the effort should also pay off. With the revenues, Blizzard wants to expand the target audience and improve the experience for viewers.
