Overwatch 2 Season 2 starts on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, and brings new content such as the Tank Ramattra and the map Shambali Monastery. Furthermore, Blizzard is addressing one of the biggest criticisms from the community in Season 2.
What does Season 2 contain? The new content of Season 2 includes the new Tank “Ramattra” as well as the new map “Shambali Monastery”. Additionally, Blizzard announced the return of the map “Rialto”. However, the maps “Hollywood” and “Watchpoint: Gibraltar” have been removed from the map rotation.
In addition to a change in the map pool, Season 2 will also see balancing adjustments for Sojourn and Doomfist, as well as Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy, and Symmetra (via overwatch.blizzard.com).
Already in October, there were initial considerations to nerf Genji, who was one of the most popular heroes along with Sojourn shortly after the release of the shooter.
Ramattra benefits from two different forms
What can the new hero do? The new hero of Overwatch 2 is named Ramattra and will be a Tank. According to Blizzard, he is supposed to stand out with aggressive abilities and a dominant playstyle.
Ramattra is armed with a staff called Void Accelerator, which has a primary and a secondary fire mode.
- In the primary fire mode, Ramattra shoots nanites that are fired at high speed and do not lose damage over distance (suitable for long-range combat).
- The secondary ability creates a temporary barrier that Ramattra places along a line on the ground.
Additionally, Ramattra has the ability to transform. The Tank then switches to the so-called Nemesis form, in which the Tank grows, increases his armor value, and gains new weapons. The Nemesis form lasts for 8 seconds after activation.
- With the ability “Overwhelm,” Ramattra deals damage that hits all enemies within range.
- With “Block,” Ramattra raises his arms in front of his face and reduces frontal damage. However, this ability, which has no cooldown, also decreases the Tank’s movement speed and does not protect against damage from behind.
Additionally, the Tank has the ability “Ravenous Vortex,” available in both forms. This is a sphere of nanites that slows down enemies, pulls them to the ground, and deals damage to them.
The crowning achievement for Ramattra’s loadout is his ultimate ability, “Destruction.” Upon activation, Ramattra immediately switches to Nemesis form and is surrounded by an energy swarm, similar to Zenyatta’s ultimate “Transcendence.” However, this does not have a healing effect like Zenyatta’s Transcendence; instead, it continuously deals damage to all enemies in range.
Blizzard makes adjustments to unlocking new heroes
Which criticism is Blizzard addressing? Even before the release of the shooter, Blizzard managed to upset some fans. The developer studio changed how you unlock heroes in Overwatch 2.
Now, players either have to buy the Battle Pass to gain immediate access or reach a certain level in the free version of the pass.
What has Blizzard changed? For Season 2, Blizzard is changing the level required to unlock a hero. While players had to reach level 55 for Kiriko in Season 1, only level 45 is needed for Ramattra.
This initially sounds like a relatively small concession, but it reduces the grind for a new hero by several hours of gameplay.
The heroine Kiriko, introduced in the last season, will be unlocked in Season 2 through challenges.
Another issue that caused an uproar in the community is the prices for skins. Some players even miss the loot boxes from the first part.
