Overwatch will soon be enriched with 2 new maps – one of which is for the new duel game modes.
In addition to the Sombra highlight, there are more news for Overwatch from BlizzCon. Two new maps will soon make their way into the hero shooter.
The first map is “Oasis” and it is a control map (like Ilios, Nepal, Lijiang). The unique feature of this map is that the developers have incorporated a genuine “jump pad,” similar to what was seen in the old Quake or Unreal Tournament games. Oasis is set in the Arab deserts and is a city full of scientists. Since science often has legal boundaries, this city was built where researchers can pursue their urges almost without restrictions.
The significantly smaller map “Ecopoint: Antarctica” has a bit more history, as the character Mei was stationed here for a long time. Mei, along with several scientists, investigated the effects and causes of some weather phenomena – at least for a while. Due to an incident, the scientists found themselves in trouble, issued a distress signal, and put themselves into cryo-stasis, hoping to be rescued in a few weeks.
But this help never arrived, so Mei was cryogenically frozen for nearly 10 years (which also explains why she has a heart of ice and knows no mercy). Anyone wanting to learn more about Mei and her life at the station should take a closer look there.
The Antarctica map will primarily be used for the new 1v1 and 3v3 modes, as players have limited space and exciting duels arise quickly.
Oasis will be playable on the PTR in December. Ecopoint: Antarctica will already be included in the Sombra patch and will hence arrive on the PTR later this week.
