Sombra is likely to land on the ‘hit list’ of Overwatch 2 soon – an exploit is so nasty that the opposing team can hardly win.
The release of Overwatch 2 is now several weeks old, but Blizzard’s shooter is still plagued by a lot of problems. Once again, a nasty exploit has appeared that can be exploited to ruin the game for everyone involved. This time, the culprit is Sombra.
What kind of exploit is this? The exploit occurs on the map Paraiso and consists of a Sombra being able to “exploit into the payload” – that is, with her translocator. This keeps her protected by the payload while she is still in the “contested” range, making it difficult for the opposing faction to push the payload. A victory is therefore only hard to achieve.
Why this error occurs is quite questionable. On all other maps, the payloads are capable of destroying created objects of the players. For example, turrets from Torbjörn and Symmetra are destroyed when the payload rolls over them. This should also be the case with Sombra’s translocator – but apparently not on this map.
What can be done against the exploit? First of all, you can report the player who exploits this error. Because causing the error “accidentally” is practically impossible; it is always cheating or exploiting. Additionally, you can try shooting “under” the payload. This can often hit Sombra because her hitbox slightly protrudes under the payload, even if you cannot see her.
In recent weeks, Blizzard has repeatedly banned characters. For instance, Bastion and Torbjörn had to be removed from the game for a while, and currently Mei is also missing, as she was able to help heroes get “out of the map” to gain unfair advantages.
The concern of many players now is that Sombra will meet the same fate and will be temporarily removed from the game. Alternatively, Blizzard could also take the map “Paraiso” out of the rotation for now.
Why do bug fixes take so long? Many wonder why Blizzard takes so long to fix such errors. It has always taken several weeks for an exploit to be fixed and the banned characters to be accessible again. However, this is not because Blizzard takes so long for bug fixing, but due to another circumstance: patches for the Xbox and PlayStation versions of games must first be approved and authorized by Microsoft and Sony. This process can take several weeks.
Since Overwatch 2 relies on crossplay, all versions of the game must function uniformly – therefore, it is also not an option to simply release the PC patch “immediately”. The only solution left is to disable a hero or a map server-side until the next patch.
Do you also diligently report such exploiters? Have you already seen other problems of this kind?
