Since its release, the new hero shooter Overwatch 2 (PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch) has been struggling with many issues. Over the weekend, most of the technical difficulties were largely resolved. However, players are now facing annoying hurdles in ranked matches.
The current state of Overwatch 2: After significant connection and server problems at release, the weekend ran much smoother. Players were finally able to play and take a closer look at Overwatch 2.
Many players even find Overwatch 2 quite good, although monetization remains a significant point of criticism. The gameplay is fun, but there are still issues with bugs and balancing that need to be addressed.
In a larger thread on reddit, players are now complaining that they are landing at the lowest ranks in the Ranked mode, despite being much better. The ranking system is the most important feature for many players and the reason for long-term engagement.
This is what players are saying: In the corresponding thread with over 900 comments, players explain that they are ranked in Bronze after completing their qualification matches. Bronze is the lowest ranking in Overwatch:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
- Master/Grandmaster
The thread creator claims to have been at the top of the Diamond league in the last season of Overwatch 1. Now he is somewhere in Bronze 2. Many other players agree that they have experienced something similar.
A player in Bronze 5 explains that he won 5 games in a row. Something isn’t right. He is even willing to accept a slow rank-up, but even that isn’t happening: ‘FeelsBadMan. Bronze 5 for Life, I guess.’
With an update, he follows up that after 29 wins, he somehow reached Bronze 3. Even that is relatively slow compared to the ranking system of Overwatch 1.
Many fans find the trailer about hope quite ironic in the current situation:

The issue concerns many affected players, especially since the situation is unsatisfactory for either side, as another user explains. He says:
You think it’s depressing to be stuck in Bronze when you should be higher? Think about the actual Bronze players who are being steamrolled by Platinum players. Good luck keeping new players engaged this way.

Even former Grandmaster players are affected by the issue (via Twitter). Even when I played, I only reached Bronze 4. Although I hadn’t played Ranked for many months prior, I was usually ranked higher and had won most of my qualifying matches.
Other former pros, in the meantime, struggled with the technical issues:
Whether the strange ranking distribution is related to a reset of the rankings and profiles with Overwatch 2 or a bug is something we cannot say at the moment. MeinMMO asked Blizzard for a statement, but a response is still pending.
