The beta of Overwatch 2 is on the horizon – at least that’s what several leaks and hints suggest for this month.
Few communities in the Blizzard universe are as disappointed as the one for Overwatch. This is because Blizzard announced Overwatch 2, which failed to impress at its unveiling – simultaneously, the further development of Overwatch 1 was drastically slowed down. There is a drought of content, and apart from some new skins during events, there have been hardly any significant new contents for years.
Now, finally, there’s some momentum coming back to the franchise – as the beta of Overwatch 2 could be just around the corner.
What happened? A few days ago, there were some updates to the Battle.net servers. These included new data that clearly points to an alpha or beta test of Overwatch 2. The updates concern the entries “Overwatch 2.0” and “Demo 2” – Twitter user Naeri captured a screenshot of the altered version.
This also aligns with other leaks. Several sources report that there was a meeting of the developers with some content creators a few days ago. Apparently, a demo of Overwatch 2 was shown there.
Such pre-meetings with content creators are common at Blizzard, as was also the case previously with Hearthstone.
The leak also stated that “more information about Overwatch 2 will be available in the week of February 3” – which is just a few days away.
What does this mean? Since all the information and leaks align very well with each other, the likelihood is quite high that there is some truth to it. This would mean that the beta of Overwatch will start around February, and we will finally get a first, more comprehensive look at the game.
As soon as there is concrete information from Blizzard regarding a specific date, we will, of course, report on it.
What is Overwatch 2 actually? That’s still a bit of a question mark. Essentially, Overwatch 2 is an evolution of Overwatch 1 – players should also be able to play together with Overwatch 1 players. However, new are story missions for multiple players, where you can play as the familiar heroes and go through a campaign. You even distribute skill points among the heroes and enhance their abilities.
However, many players are still not entirely clear on why Overwatch 2 should be a standalone game and not just an addon. Blizzard still needs to clarify this.
What do you think about it? Are you already excited for Overwatch 2 and want to participate in the beta? Or does Blizzard still need to convince you that “Overwatch 2” was actually a good idea?
