Overwatch 2 was officially announced at Blizzcon. It comes with some new features – including a kind of loot system.
Here you can find loot: One of the new features that Overwatch 2 will get are story missions. In this mode, you can also go on a loot hunt. However, these are not items that you can collect to permanently enhance your heroes.
This is how loot works in Overwatch 2
A new power-up system: In Overwatch 2, you can pick up different power-ups during the story missions. The developers emphasized during the presentation that the item system will not be oriented to Diablo or WoW – so don’t expect items to suddenly fly out of robots. You also don’t have to fight with your friends for the best items.
The system is more similar to battle royale titles like Apex Legends or PUBG. The loot consists of temporarily effective item pickups that you receive for the duration of a mission. They come with various abilities and can be found in different rarity levels.
Among other things, there are items like healing stations that you can use to support your team. In addition, a “Corrosive Grenade” was presented, which deals extra damage to enemies, and a barrier. The latter is intended, for example, to provide your team some respite when you need to revive fallen team members in the chaos.
The items should complement the abilities of the heroes and thus bring more variety to the story missions.
Your progress from Overwatch can apparently be carried over to the new part:
