Starbreeze is currently not envied. The launch of the online shooter Overkill’s The Walking Dead was a disaster, the studio head had to leave the company and now the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the online game have been canceled. The situation also looks bleak for the PC version.
That’s why there was back and forth regarding the console version: After the launch of Overkill’s The Walking Dead (OTWD) on PC flopped last November, it was recently stated that the version for PS4 and Xbox One had been canceled.
However, the publisher 505 Games shortly thereafter denied this. The game has merely been postponed. However, it is now certain: The console version will no longer be released.

Why was the game canceled? Skybound Entertainment, which holds the rights to the The Walking Dead franchise, announced that they have ended their collaboration with Starbreeze.
They had long tried to save the Left4Dead-like multiplayer game together with the developers, but in the end, the title did not meet the expectations that the company had for it and the promises made to the fans.
Skybound apologizes to the fans but also explains that they intend to release new games related to The Walking Dead in the future.
What does this mean concretely? The collaboration has been terminated with immediate effect. This means that work on the game has been ceased. The console version of the zombie game Overkill’s The Walking Dead will no longer be released.
There will be no support for the PC version anymore. There will be no updates or patches. All planned episodes have been canceled. The version is thus essentially dead.

What do the players think? Even though Overkill’s The Walking Dead had some significant technical issues, many players are disappointed. They had hoped that at least one more episode would be released.
meowzilla69 comments on Reddit: “Damn, the game was actually fun.”
Others are angry and demand a refund. For instance, chokeabtch states: “If OTWD is no longer supported by Steam five months after its launch on November 6, 2018, what will happen to the players’ investment? Were we all cheated out of 50 to 70 dollars?”
The PC version of Overkill’s The Walking Dead is still for sale and can still be played. However, Valve is currently considering how to proceed with the game. Whether there will be refunds is questionable.
