Those who enjoy zombies, cooperative action, and dramatic storytelling should keep an eye on OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead. The new game is reminiscent of “Left 4 Dead.” The release date for PC, PS4, and Xbox One is now known. Europe will see the release on November 8.
One of the hidden gems at E3 2018 was a new game set in The Walking Dead universe. The cooperative game named OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead strongly draws from Robert Kirkman’s comic source material: Story and character fates take center stage.
Skills and story over endless shooting. To be honest, there are now more zombie cooperative shooters than the average gamer can play in a lifetime. However, OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead aims to take a different path. Each of the four playable characters will have their own skill tree with various talents tailored to the character. This changes the playstyle of individual characters and adds replay value.
Story in focus. At the same time, the story is supposed to take a strong foreground and be closely intertwined with the gameplay. During a visit to the hospital, for example, one of the protagonists finds the bodies of her former colleagues, which creates a lot of discomfort. However, due to the numerous useful supplies in the hospital, a visit is unavoidable.
More than just zombies. As in the TV series “The Walking Dead,” zombies are not the only threat. Other humans (and thus a significantly smarter AI) are also reluctant to share and want to secure dominance over their respective areas. This leads to conflicts with the various factions. Those who are particularly cruel simply lure the zombies to the enemy faction’s camp and wait until the horde has moved on. What remains is the nice loot.
Fresh content after release. The developer has already made it clear that there will also be new content following the game’s release. This includes “new stories, new places to explore, and new weapons” – basically more of what the base game already offered.
