A pretty nasty bug causes players’ PS4s to simply turn off by themselves in Anthem. EA is asking players for help in identifying the bug.
Is Anthem destroying my PS4? This is a question many console players are currently asking. A bug in Anthem causes a crash on the PS4 during various activities.
The affected players describe it as if someone is just unplugging the console.
How EA plans to fix the issue
This information is meant to help find the problem: In the official EA forum, the publisher is asking players for help. A post was created here where players can provide the following information if they are affected by severe crashes:
- PlayStation console: (PS4, Slim, Pro)
- PSN ID
- Crash info: When did the crash happen? Did you take any specific steps to get the PlayStation running again?
- Did you provide the crash data upon request? (Y/N)
EA hopes to identify the root of the problem more quickly through this information.

How many are affected by the problem? Since Monday (March 4), over 1500 reports from PS4 players worldwide have been received. The post spans over 150 pages.
These are only the players who have reported in the official forum. We cannot estimate what the real extent of all affected players is.
For most players, the crash seems to happen completely randomly. Some report that they were just finishing Anthem. Others were in the city of Fort Tarsis, and some were in the middle of a mission. This also makes it so difficult to identify the bug.
Players fear for PS4 – Not turning on Anthem anymore
Players want to return Anthem: Some players are afraid that Anthem will completely destroy their console. Especially players who no longer have a warranty on their PS4 fear that they will not receive a replacement.
Due to the crashing bug, some players would like to return Anthem now at full price.
Is Anthem really destroying the PS4? There are players who report that their console has completely given up the ghost due to Anthem. However, this is not proven. So far, this statement is just a rumor.
However, those who want to be on the safe side should indeed avoid starting Anthem on the PS4 until the bug is fixed.
Is the Xbox One affected too? There are also scattered reports from Xbox players describing this severe crash. However, this problem seems to be hardly present.

Better to try another game for now? If you prefer to stay away from Anthem on the PS4 until the problem is fixed, you might find something in the list linked below.
