The new action MMO New World has launched into an open beta on Steam. Although players could already try the online game in July and the progress won’t carry over to the release, Amazon’s MMO has again over 140,000 concurrent players. This is enough for 5th place, making the New World beta have more players on Steam than GTA 5 or the new Naraka Bladepoint.
Current player count for New World: New World has reached a daily peak of 141,668 players today. This is enough for 5th place among the top games on Steam. It is only outperformed by the Steam mainstays CS:GO, DOTA 2, PUBG, and Apex Legends.
According to SteamDB, New World is considered the number one game among “Trending Games” with this achievement.
What makes the success so special: For many who may buy New World later, there is no big reason to check out New World again just before the release.
Because already in July, practically everyone had the chance to test New World in a rather open “closed beta”. Those who are now jumping back into New World with the Open Beta must start over again.
For everyone playing now, the starting area with the ghost pirates awaits again at the release on September 28, 2021. The progress from the Open Beta will also not carry over to the release.

Interest in the Open Beta (still) not as high as in the Closed
Are these high numbers? No, not really. In the Closed Beta on Steam, New World peaked at over 200,000 concurrent players.
The Open Beta became necessary after Amazon postponed the launch of New World by a month.
Early on, it was said that no new content was to be expected in the Closed Beta – only small improvements.
This is how it’s going for New World on Twitch: On Twitch, New World has not quite convinced yet. Currently, the MMO is in 12th place with about 32,000 concurrent viewers.
At its peak last night, New World had 153,813 viewers – which was still enough for 12th place.
The biggest streamer for the beta launch last night was the MMO specialist Fextralife. Otherwise, hardly any well-known Twitch streamers have looked into New World. Many will likely wait for the official launch.
