In a reddit post, the Senior Community Manager of Square Enix announced that the developers of Outriders will address the serious bug that caused players to lose their loot. There will also be a one-time event where the lost items will be restored.
This is the bug in question: While the launch of Outriders was plagued by server issues and bugs, the loot bug has reportedly caused players some of their greatest frustrations. Players were kicked from the game, and when they logged back in, many characters were left without equipment.
All weapons and armor of any rarity were gone, the entire inventory was empty. In a loot shooter that relies on strong gear, this is a significant loss.
This is what the Community Manager said: In a post on reddit, the Community Manager of Square Enix, thearcan, discussed the developer People Can Fly’s plans regarding the loot bug.
The developers plan to restore the items that were lost due to the bug. However, there are some limitations:
- The restoration will happen on a specific day and will be a large, one-time event. The date will be announced soon, but it is expected to occur in the coming weeks.
- Only the most valuable items are likely to be restored, namely epic and legendary gear. An inventory that was full of blue gear will probably not be restored.
- The restoration will add the items to your inventory. The items within will not be replaced.
- It may happen that the restored items do not have the same stats as the ones you lost.
You will therefore receive the most valuable part of your lost items back.
If in the future you happen to lose your items due to the bug, you can contact Outriders support. The developers plan to equip their teams with tools to immediately restore items for individual players.
The occurrence of the bug is also said to have been “massively reduced” with today’s patch (on April 10). The patch is said to fix the crashes in Outriders.
Bad mood on reddit
While the developers are working on a fix and the restoration of the items, there is a bad mood in the official Outriders subreddit. Many threads complain that the inventory bug and loot loss have massively affected the fun of the game.
Players report angrily that characters in which they’ve invested 80 to 100 hours of playtime are left completely naked and without gear when logging in. The announced restoration of items is also just a weak consolation for some of them. User Ok_Entertainment_112 wrote:
[…] Many people […] had 3 to 5 gear pieces with the exact same stats for our builds. We will not get gear with the same stats back, we will not get gear whose stats are maximized. So if they return the items to us, it will take at least 20 to 30 hours to get back to the point we were at before the loss. […]
In various comments, other users on reddit agree with him and cynically refer to the loot bug as a “New Game Plus” mode (via reddit).
