During the Christmas season, the loot shooter Outriders from the Bulletstorm creators “People Can Fly” and Square Enix is set to be released. MeinMMO takes a closer look at the game and shows you whether it’s worth it.
What is Outriders? The shooter was first introduced at E3 in 2019. Outriders most closely compares itself to Diablo 3, but also mixes in other play styles, such as Anthem or Destiny 2. In addition to weapons, there are also abilities that you can use, similar to Anthem.
In the end, it’s about you blasting monsters and collecting their loot. The story is supposed to be fully completed at release and last around 40 hours. You can experience it alone or in co-op. However, it is supposed to be a bit trickier in multiplayer, and the loot rewards are higher.
This is the current plan: While numerous games, such as New World, are being delayed, the plan for Outriders remains intact. It is set to be released during the “Holidays 2020,” just in time for Christmas.
The developers keep providing us with gameplay snippets and exciting insights into the development of Outriders. The loot shooter looks good and could excite many players this coming winter.
Outriders had only a few problems during the Corona period
This is new: Recently, 11 minutes of new gameplay for Outriders was shown. They come from IGN:
In the gameplay, you can see the fight against hordes of monsters. This is somewhat reminiscent of Diablo, as you also have to prove yourself against a multitude of enemies and literally cut through them.
How is the development going? The developers “People Can Fly” mentioned in our interview at the end of June that the Corona crisis has had little impact on the completion of the game.
Surprisingly, it was quite easy [to respond to the Corona crisis], because we already have 4 studios around the world. We had already set up the infrastructure and communication so that we could work from home, so it wasn’t very difficult to shift to home office and continue working on the game. We were able to use the same structure and plan to keep working on the game even during the Corona crisis. Yes, there were challenges and minor problems, but we were able to compensate for them and continue working on the game.

While other developer studios had significantly bigger problems transitioning, – Respawn and Apex Legends are struggling hard, People Can Fly and Outriders have handled the crisis fairly well so far.
Nothing has been postponed yet, so a release during the Christmas season can still be expected.
A loot shooter with hit potential
The case for Outriders: The loot shooter appeals to many players from different genres. RPG fans who enjoy games like Diablo will be catered to, but fans of shooters like Anthem or Destiny will also find what they are looking for.
The audience is therefore wide and needs to be addressed. If that is achieved, Outriders could become a real hit.
Furthermore, the developers seem to have had no major issues with the Corona crisis. While numerous games are struggling and facing issues, a well-developed Outriders could be a nice contrast.
Moreover, the weak release situation speaks in favor of Outriders. So far, there are hardly any major competitors on the release schedule for winter. A new Call of Duty is set to be released in 2020, but there are not many details yet. Numerous major releases have been postponed to 2021. Fans of Diablo are also eager and want to use comparable games to pass the time until the fourth part comes out.
The case against Outriders: While the initial glimpses of the game have generated excitement, the endgame of Outriders could become a problem. The developers have still been vague about this.
We can say that much more will come for the endgame, such as new difficulties, and you can also return to side quests that you have not completed yet, or to bounties for better rewards.

There are currently no further details on this. Outriders now has to prove that it can remain attractive even after the story ends. If it becomes too monotonous, players could quickly drift away.
