On June 3rd, developer People Can Fly released Patch 1.09, the next update for the loot shooter Outriders. This focuses primarily on matchmaking and also attempts to address the troll problem in the expeditions. MeinMMO summarizes the patch notes for you.
What is changing now? The new update is not particularly large, but it delivered 2 important improvements that players have been demanding for a while:
- On one hand, action has now been taken against trolls
- On the other hand, a region-based matchmaking has been implemented
What was the troll problem? Some players repeatedly made a game out of kicking others from the group at the end of an expedition before they could collect their well-deserved loot. This caused significant frustration in the community and spoiled the multiplayer experience for many.
What was the problem with matchmaking? There were also issues due to connection problems in the multiplayer sessions. Previous patches were supposed to resolve these issues, but it didn’t quite work out. With the new update, regional matchmaking has now been implemented. This is intended to provide additional stability in player searches.
In addition to these changes, there are several other adjustments. We summarize the patch notes for you and also address a promise that developer People Can Fly made with the release of the update.
The Patch Notes for 1.09 of Outriders
What’s included in Patch 1.09: In addition to the aforementioned changes to matchmaking and the kick function, minor adjustments have been made to the login screen of Outriders. Here are the full patch notes in summary:
- A lock has been implemented to prevent group leaders from kicking other group members out of the group before the end of an expedition.
- Regional matchmaking has been implemented to improve group search and stabilize session connections
- The login screen now has additional text hints to clarify the status of the login process
- Diverse crash and save issues have been fixed.
In addition to the patch notes, the developers assure that they are also addressing other problems and are already working on further fixes. They also give a preview of the next update.
Faster Updates, Changes to Legendary Loot, News on Stadia
Here’s how it will proceed: In their developer update, People Can Fly promises to deliver faster patches in the future and address existing issues (via reddit.com).
They mention several important points that are on the list:
- They are working on fixing remaining login problems, which primarily affect the Xbox platforms
- Additionally, they want to revise the drop rates for legendary gear to make them less frustrating
- The team is also working on the Google Stadia version, which will soon receive bug fixes and stability improvements
- Although Patch 1.08 has already provided a fix for the armor bug, they are still looking into player resilience and want to improve it. Currently, players still complain about dying from a single hit
- They are also testing some player buffs and will disclose further information once these tests are completed
Whether updates like 1.09 can bring players back remains to be seen. After a good start with over 3.5 million units sold in the first month (via pcgamesn.com), it seems that after two months post-release, the excitement has waned.
Players have either completed the content or have moved on out of frustration due to numerous bugs.
Changes to the drop rate for legendaries are likely to be of interest to some players. Some have already started cheating due to the poor legendary drop rate.
