Next week you can try the RPG shooter Outriders for the first time. MeinMMO shows you 7 things you should know about the free demo.
What is Outriders anyway? It is an RPG shooter that, from what has been shown so far, resembles a mix of Diablo 3 and various loot shooters like Anthem. It is played in third-person perspective.
You choose from different classes, collect powerful equipment (loot) and complete missions in a group of up to three players. A demo version is coming soon, where you can test the game.
When is the release of the Outriders demo? The release will take place next week on Thursday, February 25th. The demo will be available for PC (only on Steam), Xbox Series S and X, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5. You can download the demo from 6 PM.
If you want to test the shooter, MeinMMO shows you 7 important things you should know about the Outriders demo.
1. The Outriders demo is free
Anyone can try the demo. All you need is an account with Square Enix. The game also requires an internet connection. If you play on Xbox or Playstation, you also need a respective subscription, either PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold. Otherwise, there are no costs for you.
2. In the Outriders demo you can play the story for the first time
Outriders refers to itself as an RPG. Accordingly, there is a main story and side missions that can be completed. In the demo, you can play the first hours of the main story. There you will likely encounter a rival in the first chapter. Afterwards, you can revisit the area in a side mission.
What is the story about? In Outriders, humanity has left Earth. They found refuge on the planet Enoch through a mysterious signal. There, humans have built a colony.
The players’ goal is to get to the bottom of this mysterious signal. However, you will not only face the dangerous native life forms. A strange anomaly changes everything on the planet.
As a result, humans also gain strange abilities, such as manipulating gravity, space, time, and elements. This is how the four classes with their unique properties, which you can play, come about.
3. Your progress will carry over to the main game
Everything you achieve in the demo can be carried over to the full game. Thus, you can continue playing from the point where you had to stop in the demo when the full release comes. This also counts for your individual classes’ progress, which follows in the next point.
4. You can try all 4 classes of Outriders
In Outriders, you can play up to four different classes:
- Technomancer
- Devastator
- Trickster
- Pyromancer
These classes have different skill trees and properties. In the demo, you test these four classes to get an idea of which one suits your playstyle best.

5. A lot of content if you test all 4 classes
If you try all four classes in the demo, the test version offers around 8-12 hours of playtime. The developers estimate the playtime for the playable missions to be around 2-3 hours. If you complete these missions with each class, you will likely be occupied for at least 8-12 hours.
In the demo, there will be six slots for your classes. This means you can even create 6 characters to achieve up to 18 hours of gaming fun.
Of course, this also depends on how fast you are and how extensively you want to try out the mechanics of Outriders. It is even possible to continue playing further; there is no time limit for the content of the demo.
6. The Outriders demo offers crossplay
Outriders will offer a crossplay function upon release. All platforms can hunt for loot together.
This function will also be available in the demo, but in a test phase. You need to manually activate the option if you want to play with friends on other platforms.
What about cross-save? Game saves can only be transferred if you transition from PS4 to PS5 or from Xbox One to Series. Transferring from one console to PC is not possible.
7. The demo is playable even after the release of Outriders
If you don’t get to play the demo before the release of Outriders, that’s no problem. It will still be available afterwards. So you can familiarize yourself with Outriders at any time, if you wish.
When does Outriders actually come out? The full version of the shooter is set to release on April 1, 2021.
