In the first days of Outriders there was an exploit that gave players an extreme amount of legendary items. It is said to be fixed now. However, the fix is quite spicy, as it involves side quests such as hunts and bounties. These are particularly popular among players who prefer a more relaxed experience. Now it is no longer worthwhile to help friends with the quests. The exploiters get away without penalties.
Here is the situation: In Outriders, there are “Hunter” and “Wanted” quests. In these quests, players must complete 10 steps, which are essentially separate side quests:
- A quest takes about half an hour
- Each step provides an armor or weapon epic
- Once all 10 steps are completed, a legendary item is guaranteed.
These quests are popular with players who like to play without much time pressure. Because in the big endgame activities of Outriders, a timer counts down. This is simply too much stress for some.
While the expeditions are significantly more efficient for farming items, quests remain popular.
Exploit Gives 10 Times More Legendary Items Than Planned
This was the exploit: In the first week after the launch of Outriders, it apparently was possible for exploiters to obtain a separate legendary item for each of the 10 sub-steps of a quest.
This meant players did not receive 1 legendary item per hour – as planned – but 10 legendary items per hour.
To carry out the exploit, it apparently was necessary to exploit a specific multiplayer bug, as the developers of Outriders explain.
Patch Changes Loot in Quests
This is the fix now: Outriders has now implemented in a hotfix that players will not receive legendary items for “further completions of the quest” anymore.
This means:
- Those who complete a quest for the first time still receive the guaranteed legendary item
- However, those who complete the quest for the second time will no longer receive the item
The changes are already noted in the patch notes for the first major update of Outriders. It literally states:
“Historian, bounty hunter, and monster hunter quests no longer guarantee legendary items when conducted consecutively” (via Steam).
No Consequences for Exploiters
This is the problem with the fix: The players of Outriders are now complaining that after the fix there is no motivation to help friends or other players complete a quest they have already finished.
Additionally, it is criticized that the players who exploited the bug are not punished. This means that the temptation for exploiters to exploit the next bug is high.
In any case, it seems that some players have already filled their pockets with legendary items in the first days, and the exploiters now have a significant lead over the other players.
Another major criticism of the patch is at the moment that it does not buff the “Devastator” class. This class is currently so weak that Devastators are being kicked out of groups:
Outriders: Those who play the wrong class will be kicked from the coop
