Why are the fans outraged? On March 23, 2023, Resident Evil 4 (RE4) received a remake after 18 years – something many fans of the series had been waiting for for years. However, developer Capcom replaced the English voice actress for Ada Wong.
The charismatic secret agent is voiced by Lily Gao in the RE4 remake. In the original version from 2005, Jolene Anderson voiced the character.
Apparently, parts of the community are not satisfied with the new casting – Lily Gao is facing hate because players dislike the voice of the voice actress and the way she portrayed Ada Wong.
Voice actress withdraws: Some players were apparently so dissatisfied with Lily Gao’s work that it was not enough for them to post their frustration in forums. They sought out her social media channels.
On Instagram and Twitter, players reportedly left her hate messages according to the online magazine PC Gamer.
Lily Gao responded to the harassment and withdrew from her social media channels. As a first step, she disabled the option to comment on her posts.
Shortly thereafter, she hid or even deleted a large part of her posts from other users.
