The MMORPG Otherland is based on the science fiction novel series of the same name by author Tad Williams, but it hasn’t been received well by players. However, an expansion into cyberspace is on the way.
Otherland refers to a cyberspace where the people of the future live. Here they explore the fantasy world 8Squared, the cyberpunk-inspired Bad Sector, the 5Isle based on Chinese mythology, the jungle of Bug World, and the steampunk planet Mars, experiencing exciting adventures. Through the hub Lambda Mall, users can access any location in cyberspace.

An expansion of the MMORPG has been announced with “Fire Isle.” Starting this summer, you’ll explore a new area where you’ll experience a story revolving around a civil war, in which you must defeat the Celestial Dragon and find the true ruler of the Fire Isle. You will complete 60 quests in ten new areas.
Otherland is simply not granted success
The Free2Play MMORPG Otherland has a tumultuous history. The game was initially in development by RealU and gamigo, but in 2013, RealU filed for bankruptcy, and the work was halted.
The Polish studio Drago Entertainment took over the project and has continued it since then. However, players on Steam are not too enthusiastic. The reviews are “mostly negative,” and according to Steamcharts, there are only an average of 4 players online at the same time. Numerous bugs, poor performance, and connection issues have been criticized.
However, in 2018, Otherland has seen an upward trend on Steam. In 2017, the situation looked bleaker than it does now. Perhaps the expansion will bring the success.
