In Battlefield 2042 you can already go wild on the virtual battlefields before the release. Everything we know about the open beta and the first technical test in July 2021, and how you can participate, is compiled by MeinMMO.
Even before the release of the new shooter on October 22, 2021, you have at least 2 opportunities to play Battlefield 2042 yourself:
- There will be an open beta, where you can play Battlefield 2042 before the release
- Additionally, a “technical playtest” is scheduled for July 2021

Test Battlefield 2042 in the Open Beta before Release
When does the Open Beta in Battlefield 2042 start?
There is currently no exact release date for the Open Beta. EA mentions that the beta is supposed to take place in the “months before the release” – so still before October 2021.

Battlefield 2042 is supposed to be available as a beta on all consoles and systems. So on PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One as well as on PC via Steam, Origin, and the Epic Games Store. How the two trimmed Old-Gen versions of Battlefield 2042 differ is not yet known.
As soon as there is more info about the open beta or if DICE reveals more about participation, you will read it here.
What content the open beta will then allow you to try and on which of the 7 maps you can let loose is not yet known. But those who do not want to wait until DICE invites to the open beta can soon participate in an Alpha if they are lucky.
First test in July, but you need a lot of luck
This is what the test is about: In July 2021, Battlefield wants to allow some selected players onto the virtual battlefields. However, you cannot register for one of the coveted test accesses; you must be selected by DICE.
Veterans should preferably gain access to the closed technical test at the beginning of July. There may not be space for many players during this test.
This is what we know about the contents of the Alpha: The test is supposed to show how the Battlefield systems cope with 128 players.
- The conquest mode will be played on the map “Orbital”.
- In the test, you will have access to at least 4 of the new specialists and even helicopters.
- It is primarily about testing server loads and rendering performance. The matchmaking functions and load times will also be assessed in a live test.
- The test will be conducted under strict NDA conditions.
You won’t need any luck on July 22. Because EA will present a still-secret mode for Battlefield 2042, which is supposed to be a “love letter to veterans”. At the EA Play Live, we can certainly expect new info about the open beta and further appetizers for the new shooter.
