In Destiny 2, the crossplay feature has suddenly been activated since the launch of Season 14 – 3 months too early. If you want to test it, you should hurry. Bungie is already aware of the issue.
What’s going on? With the launch of Season 14, the long-awaited crossplay feature in Destiny 2 has apparently been activated by mistake. Some players have recently discovered this, as they were already able to play with friends on other platforms.
Previously, crossplay was only available between the respective correlating platforms, such as Xbox One and Xbox Series, as well as between PS4 and PS5.
When was the feature supposed to come? According to the official stance, crossplay was supposed to arrive in fall 2021 with the launch of Season 15 for Destiny 2.
Therefore, it is an oversight that crossplay is already active, as Bungie confirmed on Twitter:
If you want to test crossplay, there’s not much time left
This is what Bungie says about a possible fix: In the tweet from community manager Cozmo, it is confirmed that the feature should not be online yet. They emphasize that it is not the representative and full experience.
Additionally, they are working on a fix that is expected to come at the end of the week. Until then, players can extensively test the accidentally activated crossplay feature in Destiny 2. You should hurry.
How does it work? A player gives (via Twitter) a guide:
- Console players must activate the cross-save feature and also link their Steam account with their console account (Xbox Live, PSN). You also need to send each other friend requests on all platforms.
- Console players must load the game on their PC. If you don’t have a gaming PC, use the cloud service GeForceNow.
- Load the game via GeForceNow, but do not select a character.
- Now log into your console and select your character. PC players can now join you.
According to the player, it should work remarkably well and run stable. A clip published by Tom Warren (via theverge.com) shows Google Stadia players playing together with other PC players through the feature.
What should the finished crossplay feature look like? Officially, Destiny 2 aims to offer what is called full crossplay starting in fall 2021. You will then set out with all your friends and gaming buddies – regardless of who plays on which platform.
The goal is to merge different console generations as well as PC and Stadia into one large overarching community. In preparation for the crossplay feature, Destiny 2 has been using cross-save since fall 2019. This allows players to share their progress across platforms.
Destiny 2 has had major glitches repeatedly
In Destiny 2, glitches and bugs occur repeatedly, with varying degrees of impact.
- Recently, a glitch made headlines, which could provide players with powerful loot daily.
- One of the most popular glitches involved raids, in which players were able to head out with 12 players instead of 6 due to a bug. Players were so thrilled by the glitch that it was even left in the game a bit longer.
Whether the accidentally activated crossplay will also remain active in Destiny 2 for a longer time is doubtful, as the feature is anyway planned for the game and apparently still needs work.
What do you think about it? Will you try to test crossplay? Or would you prefer to wait until the feature is officially released? Let us know in the comments.
