3. Permadeath
What is it? Permadeath means that the character is irretrievably lost upon death. The character is usually even deleted then. Everything you worked for is gone. Wizardry Online offered such a system.
Why is it not around today? The system was too severe for many. You invest a lot of time in developing your hero, only to lose him completely due to a careless action or inattention. Very few found it exciting.
