Throughout the anime of One Piece, it has become a running gag that Luffy has invited the most diverse people into his pirate crew. But we are especially glad that these eight people did not make it into the Straw Hat Crew.
Warning, spoilers: In this article, we will discuss all members who are part of the Straw Hat Crew in the current manga chapter. The characters that Luffy wanted for his Straw Hat Crew are also spread throughout the Dressrosa arc.
The Straw Hat Crew has grown over time. During this time, there has not only been a ship change, but many members:
- Monkey D. Luffy
- Nami
- Zoro
- Sanji
- Usopp
- Chopper
- Nico Robin
- Brook
- Franky
- Jinbei
In a separate article, we already wondered how the individual members would perform in a fight. Regardless, each person in Luffy’s crew has their own strengths and weaknesses.
However, one cannot say that about all the characters that Luffy wanted in his crew. MeinMMO shows you the eight most curious characters who received an invitation to join the Straw Hat Crew.
Gimon

- First appearance: Episode 18
- Estimated location: Island of Rare Animals
Who is this? Gimon is a former pirate with a very strange story. 20 years ago, he and his pirate crew landed on the Island of Rare Animals. They set out in search of treasure but found nothing. Gimon found a treasure chest just before their departure but unfortunately fell into it, and has been stuck in the chest ever since. His pirate crew sailed away without noticing his absence.
He made such a good impression on Luffy that he wanted to hire him for his crew. Unfortunately, Gimon declined because he wanted to continue serving as a protector for all the animals on the island. He now even has a companion named Sarfunkel, who – you won’t believe it – is stuck in a barrel.
Unfortunately, the two cannot sail like the others on great ships that MeinMMO presents in the following video:
Would he benefit the Straw Hat Crew? Since Gimon is stuck in a box with most of his body, he would be useless in battle and on deck. He could at best bring a few of his animals, which might provide wool or milk as resources. Then Gimon could lovingly take care of them to contribute his share.
Abiz

- First appearance: Episode 54
- Estimated location: Dragon’s Nest
Who is this? Abiz is a little girl who advocated for her friend, the Millennium Dragon Ryu. She tried to protect him from the Marines but was captured. Luckily, she was found by the Straw Hat Crew, who could take her and the dragon to Ryu’s final resting place.
Luffy asked her after all the events if she wanted to join his crew. Abiz declined because she preferred to stay at the Dragon’s Nest and protect it. So, she waved goodbye to the Straw Hat Crew one last time and said farewell to them.
Would she benefit the Straw Hat Crew? Abiz is a small child who probably wouldn’t be able to do much in battle. She recognized this herself: When another person asked her the real reason for her refusal, she replied that she would only be in their way. An about eight-year-old child has better judgment than Monkey D. Luffy.
Wanze

- First appearance: Episode 257
- Estimated location: on a train around Water 7
Who is this? Wanze is a CP7 agent and also a cook who specializes in preparing ramen dishes. The disgusting part: He makes the ramen with his own body, and the finished noodles come from his nose.
He is so crazy about ramen that he fights with it. His obsession with ramen must have impressed Luffy so much that he wanted to invite him to his crew. However, the Straw Hat pirate seems to have forgotten that Wanze belongs to the enemies. He is a secret agent of the World Government and probably never thought about joining the crew in his dreams.
Would he benefit the Straw Hat Crew? Wanze would be the perfect addition for Sanji. With his body, he could produce ready-made ramen noodles that Sanji could then prepare into delicious dishes. However, it would be more hygienic not to make the noodles with a person’s body, which is why the Straw Hat Crew manages quite well without Wanze.
