Nami is actually the navigator of the One Piece Straw Hat Crew. However, the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, has depicted this orange-haired lady with the Three-Sword Style, which is actually used by swordsman Zoro – and he illustrated her.
Why does Nami actually have nothing to do with swords? Nami is one of the members of the Straw Hat Crew in One Piece who has very little combat experience. She doesn’t use her body or any Devil Fruit in combat, but rather a staff cobbled together by Usopp, which contains all sorts of tricks.
Additionally, she learns more and more about the weather over time and modifies her staff accordingly. There is also a companion in the form of a storm cloud that assists her in battle. Since Nami is the navigator of the Thousand Sunny, the ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, she doesn’t really need this crazy combat experience.
But what if Nami actually had combat experience? The creator of the One Piece manga once asked himself this question and illustrated Nami in a universe where she would switch roles with swordsman Zoro.
With Nami as a Swordswoman, the Crew Would Be Lost
What would Nami look like as a swordswoman? For the 13th issue of the One Piece magazine, Oda illustrated Nami in the Three-Sword Style, which is known for Zoro. He holds one sword in each hand and one sword in his mouth.
In the image, Nami is dressed quite revealingly. She is wearing only a bikini top and a long skirt with flowers and a drastic side slit, from which her leg peeks out. She is in the process of shredding straw training dummies. You can check out the image, for example, on Reddit:
What do fans say about it? The swordswoman Nami is extremely well received by fans. They think this version of Nami would look hot and would make a good swordswoman.
However, fans also worry because that would mean, conversely, that Zoro would be the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. And that would be fatal because, as we all know, Zoro has a terrible sense of direction.
Therefore, many fans joke:
- cerebrite: “They would have found the One Piece before they reached the Grand Line.”
- atwitsend1996: “The opening would change from ‘We are’ to ‘Where are we.'”
- Lostpandazoo: “I believe navigating with only one eye wouldn’t be ideal.”
Nami and other female characters from One Piece will soon have their own anime. The episodes will tell short stories about the heroines. What exactly this is and what you can expect from it, you can read here: One Piece gets a new anime with female characters experiencing their own stories
