Bellamy
What was he like as a villain? Before the time skip, he made life difficult for the Straw Hat Crew. In Mocktown, he started a fight with Ruffy. He mocked Ruffy for believing in One Piece.
The two had an epic battle. Using the power of the Spiral Fruit, Bellamy dashed back and forth. However, Ruffy managed to catch him and knock him out immediately.
Why could he now be part of the crew? The two met again on Dressrosa. He participated in the tournament in the Coliseum to secure the Fire Fruit. He was supported by Ruffy with cheers during the tournament, which is why he developed sympathy for the Straw Hat. Ruffy even referred to him as a friend in the meantime.
Subsequently, Bellamy was forced by Doflamingo to fight Ruffy. But Bellamy refused to fight Ruffy because he called him a friend. Ruffy knocked him out before worse could happen. Unfortunately, Bellamy did not join the Straw Hat Crew or the Grand Fleet but took a piece of Ruffy’s Vivre Card. With his speed, he would have been a good addition to the team.
Bartholomew Kuma
What was he like as a villain? Bartholomew Kuma is a modified cyborg serving the Navy. He must obey the orders of the World Government and is therefore an enemy of all pirates. He first encounters the Straw Hat Crew on Thriller Bark.
There, he made a deal with Zorro: The swordsman wanted to take on all of Ruffy’s pain from the battle against Moria to protect his friends. Kuma complied with this request and left the island believing he had killed Zorro.
He has a major appearance in the Egghead Arc:
Why could he now be part of the crew? On the Sabaody Archipelago, it became clear for the first time that Kuma was on the side of the Straw Hat Crew. He scattered the crew around the world to protect them. After that, he even protected the crew’s ship for a full two years.
He did so thanks to a request from Dr. Vegapunk. He programmed Kuma to protect the Thousand Sunny ship. Thanks to a flashback, we know that there is actually a good guy inside him. But since Kuma is currently a modified cyborg without emotions, it seems unlikely that he will join the Straw Hat Crew.
Perona
What was she like as a villain? Perona is the ghost princess and had to confront the Straw Hat Crew in battle when they arrived at Thriller Bark. She is a subordinate of Gecko Moria and therefore bound to him in loyalty. She had a funny duel with Lysop but came out on the losing end.
However, she also met the same fate as the Straw Hat Crew: She was sent by Kuma to a distant island.
Why could she now be part of the crew? Shortly afterward, Zorro also landed on the island. Although he was part of the Straw Hat Crew, Perona took care of him and helped him recover. She accompanied Zorro to the Sabaody Archipelago, where he reunited with the Straw Hat Crew.
Perona actually has a good heart and would fit well into the crew with her ability to manipulate the emotions of others. However, her loyalty to Gecko Moria is so great that she will likely remain in his pirate crew forever.
