Last weekend, a new spin-off for One Piece was announced. Many fans loved the previous episode called Fan Letter. However, the announcement of the new special faced a lot of criticism.
What kind of spin-off will this be? After One Piece Fan Letter was so well received, the production team presumably decided to release a new special. At the Red Stage of AnimeJapan 2025, it was revealed that One Piece in Love will get an anime adaptation.
- One Piece in Love is a spin-off manga that consists of over 140 chapters and is still ongoing. It revolves around 3 students named after Luffy, Nami, and Usopp. Nami is in love with Luffy, and Usopp tries to mediate between the two.
- The three students form a fan club for One Piece, where they experience funny situations that are supposed to parody the original anime.
- In the chapters, the fan club gathers more and more members who take on the roles of certain Straw Hats.
The spin-off is set to be released in 5 episodes from April 1 to 5, 2025. The episodes will be presented in a vertical format, designed for smartphones. If you want to watch the series, you can do so on YouTube Shorts, TikTok, or Instagram.
Initially, the announcement was supposed to be good news for fans following the great success of Fan Letter. However, it is evident in social media that many are dissatisfied with One Piece in Love.
The previous spin-off was extremely well received:
One Piece in Love does not sit well with fans
What is the mood among fans? The announcement caused a stir on the X account of newworldartur. He is an insider of One Piece who also worked on the Netflix series. The user expresses disappointment with One Piece in Love and argues that a spin-off like One Piece High School would have been much better. The vertical format also seems to bother him.
In the comments, many users share his opinion:
- luffysgum writes: “One Piece High School would have been so much better,” along with an image of a serious Gol D. Roger, the reigning Pirate King.
- Ezperro wonders: “Seriously, who is this intended for?”
- _Okurin3 delivers a devastating verdict under a tweet from pewpiece: “This ruins the reputation of One Piece.”
However, there are also some comments that can find something positive in the spin-off. We, however, fear that the new spin-off may not reach the heights of One Piece Fan Letter due to its format and content and might receive a lower rating.
Unfortunately, there was no new information during the show about the 2nd season of the live-action adaptation of One Piece. In it, the adventures of the Straw Hats will continue, and new characters will join the crew. The team should succeed in capturing 8 important scenes from the source material: 8 important scenes in One Piece Season 2 that Netflix definitely needs to get right
