2. Gaimon
Who is he? Gaimon is a former pirate who ended up trapped in a treasure chest due to an accident. His body is completely stuck in the chest, with only his head and arms sticking out.
He is on a small, remote island that is full of bizarre animals. Luffy and the crew, which at that time consists only of him, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp, encounter him relatively early in the series.
What makes him iconic? Gaimon has taken it upon himself to protect the animals on the island. Although he can no longer travel himself, he has a good heart and wants no one to harm the animals or disturb their habitats.
He also tells Luffy that he originally wanted to explore the island for a treasure – but when he fell into the chest and his crew left him behind, he simply stayed there. Luffy even asks Gaimon if he wants to join his crew. However, Gaimon declines because he doesn’t want to abandon his island and the animals.
