The WoW shop will soon lose one of its oldest offerings. “The blame” is on the Pre-Patch 9.0, which brings many new features for players.
In the in-game shop of World of Warcraft, you can purchase a variety of nice conveniences for real money. A server transfer, a character renaming, or even a faction change. However, one of the services will be discontinued – and that in just a few days. The character customization has finally run its course.
What is being discontinued? The character customization is a service that players can purchase in the World of Warcraft shop. It costs €15 and allows the player to readjust a character. Appearance can be freely changed or gender can be swapped. Aspects like skin tone, worn accessories, or gender can be adjusted.
Character customization is being removed because everything is offered in-game
Why is this being discontinued? With the upcoming expansion Shadowlands, character customization in the shop is outdated. The reason for this is that Blizzard is providing many new options and customization possibilities for characters with Patch 9.0. All races will receive new hairstyles or even completely new features, such as body jewelry, tattoos, or a function to adjust ear length for elves.
How will it work then? In the future, starting with the launch of Pre-Patch 9.0, players will simply need to visit the barber in one of the various cities (such as Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Dalaran). There, they can adjust their character’s appearance for gold. From Patch 9.0, it even includes the possibility to change the character’s gender.
By the way, the price for a character customization at the barber is quite low. The necessary gold can generally be earned at max level with one or two world quests. Nobody will become poor from this in Azeroth.
However, please note that the character’s name cannot be changed. A renaming can still be purchased in the WoW shop for real money.
When does the change come? Blizzard has not yet announced a specific date. However, the most likely date for the Pre-Patch 9.0.1 seems to be September 30 – so in just under 9 days. The character customization is likely to be removed from the shop a few days before that.
