In the European League (LEC) of League of Legends, new game mechanics and ideas are constantly being tried out. A special champion has managed to stand out in the support position, as Ashe fought her way to the top of the supporter ranking.
What does the current support meta look like?
- There is currently a lot of activity in the support position. Players are trying to gain an advantage through new champions and playstyles: Recently, Nami and Heimerdinger have appeared more frequently, and now the meta is shifting again.
- The archer Ashe is still played as ADC, but is increasingly appearing in the support role. She is not the only original ADC that players are testing out anew.
- With her unique skill set, Ashe manages to be a thorn in the side of her opponents and to initiate game-deciding attacks across the map.
The new season has started, and League of Legends kicks it off with a unique cinematic:
ADC Ashe Becomes a Top Pick Among LEC Supporters
How does Ashe perform in the new role? The icy archer is currently used more as a support character and feels right at home in this position. This is reflected in the statistics for the LEC Winter Season (via Oracle’s Elixir).
Alongside Yuumi, who is already too strong and is about to be heavily punished for the professional scene, Ashe holds the 2nd place in popularity with 73.3%. She has either been banned or picked. With a 26.7% pick rate, she shares the 2nd place with Yuumi.
What is special about the position is that Ashe has an incredible 63% win rate across 8 games played. This shows that players have been able to utilize much of her potential.
Why exactly is she so contested? Ashe brings a variety of possibilities with her abilities that she can establish in the new position. She can fight opponents from a distance with her range.
In addition, her abilities have a significant impact on the course of the game. Each of her normal attacks slows the opponent. With her W ability, she can shoot a volley that hits a large area in front of her, dealing damage and slowing opponents.
However, the most exciting aspect is her ultimate ability. With this, she can shoot an arrow across the entire map. The further the arrow flies, the longer the hit opponent is stunned. This allows Ashe to influence the top lane from the bot lane without leaving her teammate.
