The developers of Albion Online presented their upcoming graphics update in a livestream, showcasing how beautiful the German MMORPG can look.
What kind of game is this? Albion Online is a sandbox MMORPG with a strong focus on PvP and guild battles. Almost every item that can be found was crafted by a player, using materials that have been farmed.
Initially funded through crowdfunding, this MMORPG from Germany has become a great success over the past 10 years. A key element of its success is its simple graphics, which make Albion Online playable on any computer as well as on mobile devices.
This allows players to farm conveniently on the go, while the PvP battles, which partly take place in full-loot mode, are better played on a PC. However, this practically simple graphics style will soon receive an update.

Better graphics on the same hardware
What is changing? The developers of Albion Online want to enhance a whole range of assets in their game. To keep track, they revealed on albiononline.com which things will be made prettier or added to the graphics:
- A new water shadow system
- Improved atmospheric lighting
- Better colors and contrasts
- New visual textures
- The intensity of sunlight and colors will be increased
- Cloud shadows help the world come to life
- The sun is reflected off glittering snow, sand, and water
- Ground textures feel uneven and messy – with mossy underbrush, sandy dunes, and muddy swamps
- The sky, clouds, and sun reflect in the water and on the waves
- Water feels cool and refreshing in the steppe, icy in the mountains, and dirty and muddy in the swamps
- New vegetation, like cacti in the steppe
- Sand, snow, and pollen gusts in the wind
- Insects hiding in the grass

The graphics improvements are not expected to increase the already low requirements for the MMORPG. The developers even promise the opposite: the upcoming update is expected to provide better optimization and a higher frame rate.
When will the update be released? The graphics update is currently still in development. The developers plan to release it with the major update “The Wild Awakens” on April 13, 2026. So players of Albion Online won’t have to wait much longer.
