Players of World of Warcraft will soon face Ragnaros again. The old lord of fire returns in a timewalking event.
For several years, Blizzard has been working to make the great wealth of content from past expansions relevant in the current content as well. For this purpose, dungeons are occasionally brought back through “timewalking.” With Patch 8.2.5 , this will also be the case for the raid “Firelands,” which will then be part of the Cataclysm timewalking.
What is timewalking? In timewalking, players and their gear are set to the level of the respective content. In the case of “Cataclysm,” that would be level 85. This causes players to deal less damage and have lower health points. The enemies in timewalking dungeons are then challenging again, but they also drop good loot for max level.
How many bosses are there in the Firelands? The Firelands are a “tier raid,” but with 7 bosses, they are still relatively small. The bosses of the Firelands impressed back then with creative, new mechanics, such as:
- The spider Beth’tilac is fought partially on her web, while other raid members defeat adds on a lower level.
- For the firebird Alysrazor, it is even necessary for some players to take off and follow the bird in a circle the whole time.
- Lord Rhyolith must be kited in a circle the entire time while also causing him to step on volcanoes that melt his armor. He is controlled by targeting his two feet.
In the end, of course, Ragnaros awaits in his fire pool for the heroes to come too close. His devastating attacks were especially a real pain in the heroic mode back then and proved why he is the lord of the Firelands.
Not as hard as back then: Generally, the content of timewalking is usually a notch easier than it was back in the “true” version. The Timewalking: Firelands should therefore also be manageable for less experienced raid players. Ignoring the mechanics, however, will likely not be possible.
Firelands was a fan favorite: The Firelands raid was one of the major highlights of Cataclysm. This was not only due to the cool presentation of Ragnaros but also to the legendary staff quest for all spellcasting classes – which will likely not return. Especially compared to the less popular final boss of the expansion (Deathwing), the Firelands made a good impression and are still a highlight for many players today.
