The highlights of the week:
- Patch 11.0.7 for World of Warcraft has launched this week – featuring: the area of Siren Island, the new ring “Circes Ring,” and adjusted racial bonuses.

What else happened? The popular fan project Star Wars Galaxies Restoration is celebrating the anniversary of the MMORPG oldie with the biggest update so far. In 2025, non-VIPs will also be able to play the latest version of Lord of the Rings Online
This happened with the major MMORPGs:
- Gold Road was the last chapter for Elder Scrolls Online; everything will be new from 2025. What this means in detail, revealed ZeniMax CEO Matt Firor in a letter to the community.
- Recently, there were data center issues in The Elder Scrolls Online that temporarily crippled the game. This week, the developers announced a compensation. But not all players will receive it.
- By the way: On December 19, 2024, the New Year’s celebration started in Tamriel. Until January 7, 2025, you can expect special quests and rewards. All details can be found at elderscrollsonline.com.
- In January 2025, the first season of New World Aeternum will start. This week the developers revealed in detail what all Aeternum adventurers can expect in the new season world.
- Phase 2 of WoW Classic Fresh will start on January 9, 2025. Included: the honor system, Darkshore, Azuregos, and Kazzak. The battlegrounds will follow from January 16, 2025 (via worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com).
- A YouTuber fought bots in WoW because Blizzard just can’t handle it. But now he has to stop because he received death threats. This ties in with the report that bots are unfortunately also annoying in the Fresh realms of WoW Classic – but there are creative solutions.
- A new pet in World of Warcraft is causing a stir. Because it can create portals and is thus extremely useful.
- Extensions in World of Warcraft are too powerful. With the next patch, Blizzard wants to impose even more restrictions. Also planned for Patch 11.1: The depths should improve further and receive stronger rewards.
- The developers of World of Warcraft have an idea on how to change Mythic+. The problem is: It could change everything.
- The MMORPG Lost Ark not only received a new update this week but also a roadmap extending into March 2025.
- The Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV is not currently being received well on Steam and is being harshly criticized. MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß had a very similar experience, until she found the best way to play the MMORPG and now finally enjoys it again.
- Let’s stay in Eorzea: Final Fantasy XIV has already had several event collaborations. Recently, among others, Final Fantasy XVI, Fall Guys, and Yo-Kai Watch. One of the developers now wants to collaborate with one of the most successful games in the world.
- The new update for Throne and Liberty massively eases the rune grind – the community celebrates the improvements.
- Following the teaser trailer, there is now the official announcement of the new class from Black Desert. The MMORPG is partially leaving its fantasy roots. The Deadeye cowgirl relies on revolvers or shotguns. Here’s the trailer:
This happened with the small MMORPGs:
- With World of Jade Dynasty has just launched, probably the most beautiful MMORPG in the world, but unfortunately, there is a catch.
- An experienced developer worked on the MMORPG Wildstar after successes with the Fallout series. After completion, however, the game was only online for a few years – which does not surprise the developer behind it.
- After the outcry in the community, the developers of the MMORPG Tibia announced that they would re-examine some of the character deletions carried out. Now the result of the review is out, and not all players are happy with it.
- In the various MMORPGs from Daybreak Games (DC Universe Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online, EverQuest, EverQuest 2, Lord of the Rings Online, Magic: The Gathering Online, PlanetSide 2) celebrations are taking place at this time. An overview of the events can be found at daybreakgames.com.
- The developers of Albion Online look back on YouTube at a successful year for their MMORPG.
- For 2025 in Lord of the Rings Online, there is a roadmap (via lotro.com)! The developers are planning for the first and second quarters, among other things, two raids, a dungeon, and an update for bird watching. Also, 64-bit servers for non-VIP players are expected to arrive during the year. And of course, a new expansion is planned for late 2025.
This happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Actually, the update from December 13, 2024, should noticeably improve the Early Access version of Corepunk. However, the patch caused such serious problems on the live servers, that buyers have not been able to play for a week.
- Riot Games has been planning a new MMORPG in the world of League of Legends for years. But development was reset and restarted in March 2024. This week, Riot Games founder Marc Merrill spoke about the reasons.
- With Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen a new MMORPG was released in Early Access on Steam on December 13, 2024. There are now the first reviews from genre fans highlighting one thing particularly positively.
- As early as the late 1990s, there were efforts to develop a large sci-fi MMORPG based on Fallout. But there were difficulties and legitimate objections, even from Fallout’s creator, Tim Cain.
- In the Early Access version of Pax Dei and on the official Discord channel, a lot has happened again this week. On December 19, 2024, there was again a clean-up action to remove inactive properties. The already announced Grace feature and gold sinks should come in January 2025.
- The Quinfall will launch on Steam in Early Access on January 25, 2025 (via YouTube).
