The defeat of perhaps the most popular character from the manga of Jujutsu Kaisen has broken the hearts of many fans. The mangaka has now revealed in a Q&A session why the supposedly invincible character still lost.
Which character is nearly invulnerable? Satoru Gojo is regarded as the strongest sorcerer in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen and is the pride of his clan. He possesses numerous abilities that make him nearly invincible:
- He has a superhuman amount of cursed energy and can therefore use multiple strong techniques in succession. He can unfold his territory several times a day, while other sorcerers can only do it once a day.
- There is an infinite space between Gojo and the rest of the world. He alone decides what can touch him and what cannot.
- With his techniques, Gojo overrides the laws of physics. He can create a gravitational focal point, generate an absolute void, or destroy everything in his path.
Especially the Infinity ability of his clan allows him to exit battles without harm. However, although Gojo appears invincible, a character has surprisingly managed to kill him.

Gojo must concede defeat to Sukuna for a reason
Who did he lose to? Gojo fought against Sukuna, the king of curses. He received help from Mahoraga, the strongest Shikigami that can be summoned using the Ten Shadows Technique. Although Gojo had to fight against two enemies at the same time, he held his own.
The battle spanned 14 chapters in the manga, resulting in Gojo being cut in half at the end. Thanks to Mahoraga, Sukuna was able to overcome the infinity between Gojo and his outside world.
Why did Gojo lose? Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, has now commented in a Q&A session about Gojo’s death. For fans, this was a particularly emotional event, even though several main characters had died before. He stated that it was Gojo’s own fault for losing to Sukuna:
After defeating Mahoraga, Gojo thought that Sukuna had no way left to bypass his infinity. I believe that the normal Gojo would have sensed that something was wrong and could have avoided a fatal wound.
Thus, Gojo’s arrogance stood in the way of his victory. He was so confident in his abilities that he did not see the danger coming. The powerful sorcerer thought he already had the victory in the bag.
This also means that Sukuna was never stronger than Gojo, but only managed to win because Gojo was careless. Additionally, he had the help of Mahoraga. Therefore, Sukuna’s victory over Gojo is likely to upset many fans.
