Peter Hines is leaving one of Bethesda’s most well-known faces. Many players and journalists know him as Bethesda’s PR chief. After the release of Starfield, it seems that the time has come for him.
Bethesda, the company behind Starfield, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout, has announced that Peter Hines will be leaving the company.
In a statement on Twitter, Bethesda announced Hines’ resignation and thanked him for his contributions to the studio during his 24-year tenure at the company. Bethesda writes:
“Pete’s public presence was just a small part of his role at Bethesda, although the way he represented us reflected the values he cultivated here: authenticity, integrity, and passion.”
Hines is one of the most important people at Bethesda alongside Todd Howard
Pete Hines joined Bethesda Softworks in 1999, where he served as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications for over 23 years. It wasn’t until 2022 that he was promoted to Head of Global Publishing. Alongside Todd Howard, Hines is one of the most recognizable faces of the company.
Hines also spoke out on Twitter regarding his resignation. Here he thanked his colleagues and friends who have accompanied him for many years.
After 24 years, I have decided that my time at Bethesda Softworks has come to an end. I am retiring and will begin an exciting new chapter of my life, where I will explore interests and passions, spend my time where I can, and take more time to enjoy life.
(…) After a great career, culminating in the incredible release of Starfield, it feels like the time is right.
Many players knew Peter Hines mainly through his public appearances, as here he represented his company, talked to players, and discussed games like Redfall, Fallout 76, or the new Starfield. Just recently, he spoke in an interview with GameStar (Paywall) about Starfield and explained why the game might not be suitable for everyone.
