After a long silence, there will finally be new information about Crimson Desert at gamescom 2024. And not only that! According to developer Pearl Abyss, there will even be the opportunity to try out the open-world role-playing game for the first time in Cologne.
What have the developers of Crimson Desert announced? In May 2024, MeinMMO reported that the development of the open-world role-playing game is finally nearing its end after many years. At the gamescom 2024 in Cologne, which takes place from August 21 to August 25, 2024, there will be new gameplay after a long silence.
But that’s not all! On the official website of Crimson Desert, the team announced on July 25, 2024, that there will be a dedicated Crimson Desert booth from Pearl Abyss at the fair, where players will be able to try the role-playing game for the first time. The exact location of the booth is not yet known.

Why is Crimson Desert so exciting? The project, first hinted at in August 2017 and specifically introduced in November 2019 by Pearl Abyss, has already caught the attention of the MeinMMO editorial team early on.
- Pearl Abyss made a name for itself particularly with Black Desert, which has many fans due to its powerful combat feel and beautiful game world. Crimson Desert was originally intended to be an MMORPG as well, focusing on comparable strengths.
- The setting and characters, with their Western style, reminded many of Game of Thrones. The main character resembled Jon Snow.
- Later, the developers explained that Crimson Desert is not meant to be an MMORPG at all but will focus strongly on the single-player campaign in a vast, open world, with optional multiplayer content, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 or the GTA series.
- The previous trailers not only shine with great graphics and dynamic combat in the open world (with wrestling moves, destructible siege machines, and horseback fighting), but they also showcase activities like fishing, balloon rides, flute playing, arm wrestling, parkour climbing, taming horses, and much more.
Many of these elements, such as the parkour system and taming horses, are already familiar to MMORPG enthusiasts from Black Desert.
