Digital Extremes, the developers of Warframe, are working behind the scenes on a new MMORPG: Soulframe. Many details about it have not been revealed so far. However, first gameplay was shown in a livestream, without a major announcement.
What kind of game is this? Soulframe is said to take place in a fantasy world and focus heavily on exploration. The MMORPG will feature an open world where many players can explore together. The developers claim to have drawn inspiration for their world from films like Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story.
The new gameplay now shows a warrior with sword and magic defeating various opponents. According to the developers, there will be a strong focus on melee combat. The combat system feels rather sluggish. With its long and sweeping attacks, it seems less dynamic than Warframe and more akin to Elden Ring or New World. The same applies to the rather beautiful game world seen in the background.
The gameplay shown here comes from a very early version of Soulframe. It was revealed after 50 minutes in a livestream celebrating 10 years of Warframe – without much prior notice.
Warframe evolved into one of the best MMOs, raising hopes for Soulframe
Why is Soulframe so exciting? Although there is currently little information or gameplay available, many players have high hopes for the MMORPG. This is primarily due to the developer studio Digital Extremes.
They released the game Warframe in 2012, despite no publisher wanting it. They listened to player criticisms regarding a paywall for the beta, regularly released significant updates, and adopted a very fair free-to-play model.

Many fans hope that the virtues of Warframe will also continue in Soulframe. Although the two games already differ drastically in the gameplay shown, this does not have to be a negative aspect. After all, Digital Extremes can appeal to a whole new audience with the fantasy world and slower gameplay.
Soulframe will not be a direct successor to Warframe but rather a game that can function well in parallel.
When is Soulframe being released? There is currently no official release date. However, new information about Soulframe is expected to be revealed at TennoCon, which takes place on August 26, 2023. The MMORPG was also first presented at the in-house fair in 2022.
