Ubisoft, the developers of Rainbow Six Siege, have announced a collaboration with Adult Swim. They are known for their cartoon series “Rick & Morty”. To kick off, there are two completely absurd skins and ridiculous weapon charms.
Who is the Operator? One of the two Operators receiving a new skin is the defender Smoke from the British SAS. Smoke uses a special gas mixture to hinder opponents.
He is particularly annoying because he often waits at the objective point of the attackers, preventing them from reaching it. He can use his gas to protect a bomb and obstruct the enemies’ vision.
When positioned correctly, he can still see the legs of the opponents and hit them. The gas also makes attackers cough, making them easier to locate. Especially under time pressure, when attackers urgently need to get to the bomb, Smoke can be a real nuisance.
This is the new skin: With the collaboration, Smoke now gets the “Pickle Rick Skin”. With this, he wears the head and parts of a rat’s body, along with the ribcage and some remains of a pickle.
Attacker colleague Sledge (also from the SAS) receives the second skin, the Gromflotite Skin. Gromflotites are an insect species and antagonists in the cartoon Rick & Morty. Additionally, there will be a pickle as a weapon charm:
Why the hell a pickle? The skin is a reference to an episode of Rick & Morty, where the brilliant scientist Rick Sanchez transforms into a pickle out of boredom. He rolls into the sewers and tries to escape and transform back.
To do this, he lures some rats into a trap and uses their corpses to build an exoskeleton and weapons to blast his way back to his lab. Hence the pickle as a charm.
Ridiculous skins surprise, but are well received
Rainbow Six is actually a rather serious game, which is why players didn’t necessarily expect such an event. For Peter L. on YouTube, for example, it is a “completely unexpected crossover” (via YouTube).
Rainbow Six Siege has attempted something quirky before with a pizza skin for Mozzie, which however was not well received. The new Rick-&-Morty skins, however, seem to be significantly more popular. Under the German video, for instance, it says: “What, really? How cool is that? I might actually play again” (via YouTube).
The bundles are expected to hit the Rainbow Six shop starting today, April 15, 2021. However, it’s still unclear when exactly they will be released and what they will cost. At the time of writing (7:15 PM), they are not yet available.
Ubisoft also promises that more collaborations will follow in the future, but has not yet revealed what they will be. If you find the skins and these quirky ideas annoying, you can also watch a serious e-sports tournament at the moment:
