Starting December 8, the fight against the Emerald Weapon will be available in Final Fantasy XIV. We will reveal the background behind this legendary boss.
What is Emerald Weapon? Long-time Final Fantasy fans first encountered the Emerald Weapon in the PS1 main title Final Fantasy VII. The weapon plays an important role in the story of this popular J-RPG.
It is one of a total of 5 Super Monsters that were created by the planet itself to protect against dangers long ago. For many years, the Super Monsters slept in the Northern Crater, waiting for the moment they would be needed.
This moment came when Sephiroth cast the magic “Meteor” in FFVII, which threatened the planet. Together with its “siblings”, Emerald Weapon escaped from the Northern Crater and submerged into the sea, where it can be fought by players.
This is how the Emerald Weapon became a legendary boss
Why is this boss legendary? The Emerald Weapon in FFVII is one of the toughest bosses in the entire game and has reached legendary status among fans.
The battle takes place underwater, and your group must equipped with special materia to breathe. Otherwise, they only have 20 minutes to take down the strong beast. Not an easy task with a whopping one million HP.
That is more than double what the final boss of the game, Safer-Sephiroth, can have at maximum.
To quickly take down the weapon before it wipes out the group, many FFVII players therefore obtain the special powerful “Knights of the Round” materia, which can deal massive damage due to multiple attacks. However, to obtain this materia, one has to grind quite a bit in FFVII and breed a golden Chocobo.
For this reason, many FF players associate the Emerald Weapon with many hours of grinding and unsuccessful attempts to defeat the beast.
How does the boss come to FFXIV? The Emerald Weapon is part of the quest line regarding Werlyt. It revolves around the imperial VII Legion under Valens van Varro, which has set up a new weapons program and is experimenting on innocent people to produce new murderous machines.
Players have already had the opportunity to fight against the Ruby and Sapphire Weapons, which also originate from FFVII. The Emerald Weapon now adds another legendary FFVII opponent to the collection.
This means that players of the MMORPG can expect the old familiar attacks of the weapon to return. These include:
- Emerald Beam
- Foot / Revenge Stamp
- Aire Tam Storm
While the normal version of the Emerald Weapon should not pose much of a challenge, the EX version will surely remind some players of their fights against the original from FFVII.
